A 25-year-old woman, Oluwabukola Adebayo, on Tuesday appeared before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over alleged N800,000 fraud.
Adebayo, whose address was not provided is standing trial on charges of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Insp Olagoke Adegbenro, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 3, at Ode-Aje, in Ibadan.
Adegbenro alleged that the defendant and others now at large, obtained the sum of N800,000 from her friend, one Gbemisola Omoniyi, under the pretext of helping to use same for payment of complainant’s brother’s school fees abroad.
He alleged that the defendant never paid the fees but converted the money to her personal use.
The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390(9), 419 and 516 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olasinmibo Sanusi-Zubair, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case until Jan.27, 2026, for hearing. (NAN)
