Wike vows to deliver major projects before Tinubu’s first term ends

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged that Abuja will experience massive infrastructural transformation before the end of President Bola Tinubu’s first term.

Speaking on Monday at the flag-off of access roads ILS 02 and ILS 03, also known as Timipre Sylva Street, in Mabushi District, Wike said the projects align with Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He noted that the agenda prioritises modern infrastructure, efficient transportation, healthcare, education, and youth empowerment.

According to him, the roads represent another step in reshaping Abuja into a city that can compete with global capitals.

No abandoned projects

The Minister dismissed criticism that his administration was focusing too much on road construction, stressing that infrastructure remains the foundation for development.

He explained that the FCTA was committed to ensuring all projects were fully funded before take-off to prevent abandonment.

Don’t bring projects when you don’t have the money,” Wike said, adding that contracts without funding only raise false hopes.

He emphasised that every project flagged off under his watch had adequate financial backing.

Focus on judiciary housing

After the Mabushi road flag-off, Wike inspected ongoing works at the Court of Appeal complex in Dakibiyu, Jabi District, and the judges’ quarters in Gishiri.

While satisfied with progress on the housing units, he expressed concern about delays at the Court of Appeal project.

“I am not too satisfied that the contractor will meet the promised timeline, but I believe the project will not exceed this year,” Wike said, noting that the contractor had been summoned for urgent talks.

Commending President Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of judicial officers, Wike stressed that decent accommodation would help safeguard judicial independence and ensure judges live securely away from criminal elements.
