Wife of late army officer, who passed away from burnt wounds following a domestic dispute, has broken her silence.
She said her piece in an audio message that surfaced on social media.
Lt Samson and wife’s dispute
Lieutenant Samson Haruna, a Nigerian Army officer and medical doctor serving as the Regimental Medical Officer (RMO) with the 6 Battalion, died after sustaining severe burns when his wife allegedly set him on fire during a domestic dispute on September 22, 2025.
The incident occurred at the Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, in Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. During a heated argument, she is said to have doused him with petrol (PMS) and ignited it.
He was initially treated at the Military Reference Section within the barracks and later transferred to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, but doctors were unable to save him. Mrs. Haruna has been arrested, and authorities are investigating the case.
Mrs Haruna speaks up
In a trending video that surfaced online, Mrs Haruna noted that the incident was an accident.
She claimed that he mistakenly kicked over the gallon of fuel which spilled around the house and was threatening to her ablaze if her parents don’t come take her home.
Mrs Haruna went on to alleged that he had beaten her in the past, to the point of having miscarriage.
She further added that the husband had pleaded for the wife to come see him in the hospital, and had confessed the accidental nature of the whole thing, asking authorities to drop the case and leave his wife.
