“Why would you transfer the money back to my Opay?” — Man questions lady after she refunds mistaken ₦800k

A woman has shared an unusual encounter with her former neighbour, who reportedly contacted her after mistakenly transferring ₦800,000 into her bank account.

According to the woman, her former neighbour sent her a message last week informing her about the erroneous transaction.

She immediately checked her account, confirmed receiving the ₦800,000 and prepared to return it. However, the man allegedly provided a different bank account and instructed her to transfer the money there.

Rather than sending the money to the newly provided account, the woman transferred the entire ₦800,000 back to the account from which she had received it, adding the transaction description, “Money mistakenly received.”

Her former neighbour reportedly called immediately after noticing what she had done.

According to her, he asked, “Why would you transfer the money back to my Opay? I gave you an account to send the money to. I can’t withdraw money from that Opay.”

The woman responded, “Bros, I didn’t receive the money from the account you sent me.”

She said the man became angry, ended the call and subsequently blocked her on WhatsApp before she could forward the transfer receipt.

Woman shares unexpected development days later

The story later took another turn when the woman disclosed that her former neighbour had reportedly been arrested by the police.

She did not provide details about why he was arrested or indicate whether the arrest was connected to the ₦800,000 transaction.

The account has highlighted the importance of exercising caution when handling unexpected transfers, particularly when a sender requests that money be refunded to a different account.
