The Ogun State Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Dapo Okubadejo, has explained the reason behind the 2026 budget increase compared to last year.
Recall that this year’s budget of N1.669 trillion, presented by Governor Abiodun and approved by the State House of Assembly under the title “Budget of Sustainable Legacy,” represents a 58 per cent increase over the 2025 budget of N1.054 trillion.
Okubadejo, while addressing newsmen during a media parley and breakdown of the 2026 budget held in Okemosan, Abeokuta, on Tuesday, said the budget represents a significant leap in the state’s financial profile.
The chairman of the state’s economic team explained that the increase reflects the state’s economic performance, maintaining that it is on a positive trend and has achieved significant growth.
He argued that this growth is not by accident but the result of deliberate efforts by the current administration to create a conducive business environment.
Okubadejo stated that the security enjoyed in the state, improved processes for acquiring land and titled documents, infrastructure development, and other factors have contributed to the influx of investors.
He said, “Ogun’s economy is on a positive trend due to a conducive environment, ease of doing business, security in the state, and the reforms of this administration in land acquisition. We have improved the process of obtaining titled documents through OLAMS and the digitalization of procedures and payments for land acquisition.
“We also changed the format of the Certificate of Occupancy and improved business registration, especially through the creation of the Ogun State Investment Promotion and Facilitation Agency, Business Environment Council, and billing system.”
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Olaolu Olabimtan, said the 2026 budget reflects strong fiscal reforms, noting an 85 per cent budget execution rate in 2025 and sustained financial stability.
Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Ade Akinsanya, stated that the current administration has constructed 1,600 km of road and is targeting 2,000 km before the end of its tenure.
He disclosed that the key element in the infrastructural drive is the Gateway International Airport, adding that new developments are coming up, including the perimeter road around the airport, and that roads in all three senatorial districts will be covered with increased intensity.
Meanwhile, his transportation counterpart, Gbenga Dairo, said the ministry remains committed to providing safe roads for residents and visitors. He disclosed that the Abiodun-led administration is determined to tackle gridlock and road accidents on the Sagamu Expressway and added that a taskforce would be set up to monitor activities there.
