Isaac Fayose, who is widely known as the younger brother of former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has raised concerns over religious leaders who reportedly run from danger whenever there is an attack on places of worship in Nigeria.
“Jesus didn’t run during His own time on earth.”
Speaking on social media, Fayose argued that pastors and imams should not abandon their congregations in times of crisis.
“Why are our pastors always the first to run whenever there is attack on their church? This is so wrong. Why are they the leaders then? Jesus didn’t run during His own time on earth. Our National Assembly needs to bring a law that’ll stop pastors and imams from running first,” he said.
Social media reactions
... has sparked mixed reactions from social media users, with many debating whether such a law is practical and whether religious leaders should risk their lives for congregants.
Some users agreed with Fayose’s frustration, highlighting the fear and hypocrisy they perceive among some pastors.
Others cautioned that religious leaders are human and not invincible, pointing out that expecting them to face armed threats unprotected is unreasonable.
@TDeeney01 said: “If e reach your turn, no run.”
@wings_6070 added: “Pastors fear death more than their members. They preach about heaven but are afraid to die.”
@Gerald_95 wrote: “Pastor no wan die but them wan go heaven.”
The debate underscores ongoing discussions in Nigeria about leadership responsibility, safety, and expectations of public figures in crisis situations.
