The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, , has criticized the recent political movement of , stating that it highlights what he described as a lack of strong leadership qualities.
During an appearance covered by , Wike expressed his views on the matter, linking Obi’s decision to leave the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with broader concerns about political responsibility and resilience. According to him, such actions reflect an inability to manage challenges within a political structure.
He stated, “What has happened with the defection of some governors who have left has only shown that they lack the traits of true leadership. I liken them to the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party. Before the election, he wanted to be president, and they gave him a platform, and that platform was the Labour Party. When a crisis came in the Labour Party at the very time he was required to show leadership, he ran away to ADC, because he could not solve problems.”
Wike further argued that this pattern is not limited to Obi alone but extends to certain governors who recently exited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). In his view, these individuals benefited from the party’s structure to attain political relevance and authority but chose to abandon it when confronted with internal difficulties.
He emphasized that genuine leadership involves confronting and resolving crises rather than withdrawing when situations become challenging. For him, those who left demonstrated their true character at a critical moment when determination and strategic thinking were most needed.
Wike maintained that committed members of the PDP remained within the party to address its issues, rather than seeking alternatives elsewhere. He suggested that loyalty and problem-solving ability are essential traits that define effective leadership, especially in a complex political environment.
