A report has revealed WhatsApp messages showing what the boyfriend of a slain KMTC student told his friend shortly after the tragic incident in Karatina.

The student, identified as Sheila Chebet, a first-year at Kenya Medical Training College, had reportedly spent time with friends at a pub before leaving with her boyfriend, Vincent Bett, who is believed to be the last person seen with her.

According to screenshots seen by this author, the suspect sent a series of alarming messages moments after the incident. In one message, he wrote: “Waaah ungeniambia kuna insecurities tusitoke,” suggesting concern over safety. He added, “Mtu ndio anapiga sai nme receive but haongei,” indicating that someone had called him but remained silent.

In another set of messages, he appeared confused about his whereabouts, stating: “Nimpigie buana nawa watu sijui mahali niko,” loosely translating to uncertainty about his location while claiming to be with people. His friend responded with concern, asking: “Uko wapi sai?” and “Watu wangapi?” but there was no clear response, with a missed voice call also recorded.

Later, the suspect reportedly said: “Waaah ni sawa, acha niende police station,” suggesting he intended to report the matter.

The messages have raised fresh questions about the events of that night, especially in light of his earlier claims that they were attacked by unknown individuals.

The tragic incident has left Chebet’s family in deep pain as they continue to demand justice. Authorities have since taken Bett into custody as investigations continue, with detectives expected to rely on both digital evidence and CCTV footage to establish what truly happened.
