Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has vowed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will reclaim Abia State from the Labour Party (LP) in the 2027 general elections,
Kalu mobilises 27 pro-groups in Bende
Kalu made the declaration during a meeting with over 27 support groups under the Ben Kalu Foundation (BKF), held in his hometown, Bende, on Sunday.
The gathering brought together members of his Renewed Hope Partners, the Renewed Hope Initiative, and other pro-Tinubu groups working to strengthen the APC structure across Abia.
“We have come to take over, and there is no going back because we want to work with the President to move our state forward,” Kalu said.
The Deputy Speaker described President Bola Tinubu as the “real miracle worker” for removing fuel subsidy and channeling the funds directly to the states.
He said Abia must align with the Federal Government to benefit from ongoing reforms.
Criticises Otti over performance and allocation
While acknowledging Governor Alex Otti as a friend, Kalu faulted his administration’s performance, alleging that the Labour Party government had “failed to justify the huge allocations it receives monthly.”
He claimed that previous governors managed the state with less than ₦5 billion monthly, while Otti’s administration now receives about ₦38–₦40 billion from federal sources.
“You cannot be getting this kind of money and perform like those who got far less,” he said. “We are the opposition, and we will speak for the masses.”
APC eyes grassroots takeover in 2027
Kalu announced that President Tinubu has promised to build a seaport in Abia State, describing it as one of the administration’s major infrastructural commitments to the region.
He urged APC members to obtain their voter cards and prepare for 2027, assuring that the takeover would be achieved “through the votes of the people.”
Party leaders including Rev. Trump Eke, Charles Ogbonna, Don Ubani, and Chikezie Mba commended Kalu’s leadership and pledged full support for his political ambition.
