The immediate past Governor of Kano State and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has mocked speculations that Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso might rejoin the ruling party, saying he and his supporters would be welcomed as “madmen returning to their vomit.”
Speaking at an APC stakeholders’ meeting in Kano, Ganduje said Kwankwaso had on several occasions ridiculed the party and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, making any potential return appear inconsistent and laughable.
Kwankwaso Mocked APC Before – Ganduje
Ganduje reminded his audience that Kwankwaso had once declared that only a “madman” would join the APC and even dismissed Tinubu’s achievements as governor of Lagos State.
“We have heard these rumours, but we don’t take them seriously. Kwankwaso said only a madman would join APC. He even mocked President Tinubu when he was contesting, claiming Tinubu only developed Lagos. Now they want to return. If they come, we’ll welcome them as madmen who swallowed their vomit,” Ganduje stated, according to a BBC Hausa report monitored in Kaduna.
He, however, noted that reconciliation among himself, Kwankwaso, and former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau could still be possible in the future, given their collective governance experience.
Attacks Governor Abba Yusuf’s Administration
Turning his attention to his successor, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Ganduje accused the current administration of vendetta, wasteful spending, and poor governance.
“When I took over power, I never wasted time probing my predecessor. But Abba Yusuf began with probes. Tell me, what have they uncovered?” Ganduje queried.
He alleged that the Yusuf-led government had received more funds in six months than his own administration managed in eight years but had little to show for it.
“This government has no grip on governance. It’s like comparing a messenger with a permanent secretary. Theirs is a government of bandits, clumsy and confused,” he said.
On His Removal as APC Chairman
Addressing his removal as APC National Chairman, Ganduje dismissed speculations of internal rifts, stressing that the change was purely due to zoning and political rotation.
“The President did not wrong me. Leadership is by God’s will; He gives it to whom He wants at any time,” he added.
Despite defections, Ganduje insisted that the APC remains Nigeria’s largest political platform.
As of now, neither Kwankwaso nor Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had responded to Ganduje’s remarks.
