An Abuja-based businesswoman has sparked mixed reactions on social media after sharing a letter she received demanding ₦50,000 payment for using her television and other services.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the woman identified as Bingel Bamba’am expressed shock, wondering how she was expected to pay such an amount for watching her own TV using her electricity.
“Craziest thing I have come across ever”
In her post, she wrote: “We got a letter today demanding we pay for using TV and other services and this is the craziest thing I have come accross ever. We should pay for watching our own TV with our electricity & satelite subscription? Lmfaoooo.”
Her post quickly gained attention, sparking widespread reactions among users who shared their thoughts and experiences regarding similar charges.
Mixed reactions from Nigerians
Reacting to her post, an X user named Grace commented: “Something wey Lagos people don dey pay since. Radio and television. Welcome to the emilokan.”
Another user, Happy Dude, defended the charge, saying: “But this is done in developed countries, and these are the things they make them what they are.”
Uncle Ebizi, who also shared his own experience, posted a letter where he was asked to pay N200,000 said: “It’s really tough what AMAC and the FCTA are putting businesses through in Wuse 2. They don’t seem to encourage business growth at all.”
Similarly, Kemi wrote: “people abroad are paying for it. if you’re not streaming any program, just let them know.. ibelieve they should cancel the payment.”
