We Must Not Say Because It’s PDP Member That Must Win, Would You Compare Makinde With Tinubu?–Fayose

According to a report by Daily Post on Monday, March 30, 2026, former governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has stated that his support for President Bola Tinubu does not constitute anti-party activity, even though he remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.

He maintained that political alignment should not be narrowly defined by party boundaries, especially in a democratic setting where differing views are expected.

Fayose made this position known during the national convention of the PDP held in Abuja, where party members gathered to deliberate on internal matters and the broader direction of the party.

His remarks drew attention to ongoing debates within the party regarding loyalty and the conduct of members who publicly express support for individuals outside the PDP.

Addressing the issue, Fayose stressed the importance of prioritizing national interest over strict adherence to party lines.

He indicated that democracy allows for diverse opinions and that individuals should be able to make decisions based on their assessment of what benefits the country the most.

He pointed out that political differences should not automatically be interpreted as disloyalty.

According to him, the nature of democracy accommodates varying perspectives, and such differences should be seen as part of a healthy political environment rather than a violation of party principles.

Fayose also underscored the need to evaluate leadership based on competence rather than party affiliation.

He suggested that the focus should remain on the ability of individuals to deliver effective governance, rather than solely on their political platform.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions within the PDP concerning unity and discipline among its members, particularly in the context of interactions with political figures from other parties.

The issue has continued to generate attention as party stakeholders seek to define the boundaries of acceptable conduct.

“We must not say because it’s our party member that must win when we know our party member has no capacity. Would you compare a Makinde with an Asiwaju?” He queried.
