A former student of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, who attended the institution with Lieutenant Ahmad Yerima, has shared details about the now-viral naval officer who recently clashed with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
Ex-Classmate Speaks About the Viral Naval Officer
Aliyu Jalal, a graduate of ABU, disclosed in a Facebook post that he was in the same faculty as Lt. Yerima during their university days.
His revelation followed the trending incident where Yerima was seen in a viral video preventing Minister Wike from accessing a property in Gaduwa, Abuja, on Tuesday, November 11.
According to Jalal, the officer, who many Nigerians now admire for his boldness, was well-known on campus and went by the nickname “MD.”
From ABU to the Nigerian Defence Academy
Aliyu also shared that Yerima began his academic journey studying Mass Communication before leaving for the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA).
Recalling their university years, Jalal wrote:
“We called him MD back in ABU. Born and raised in Kaduna. We got admitted into the Faculty of Social Sciences the same year — 2011. He used to be tall and lanky. Had a way with girls. He started Mass Communication before going to NDA.”
“Regardless of whose interest he was safeguarding, he demonstrated the discipline, bravery, and righteous fearlessness expected of a true soldier. Respect.”
