A viral video involving a Nigerian comedian and activist, MC Okrika, has sparked outrage online after he confronted some operatives of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Cross River State Police Command over the alleged extortion of N150,000 from a farmer in Ikom, Cross River State.
In the video circulating on social media, the activist was seen confronting officers stationed at an improvised checkpoint, accusing them of collecting the money from a motorcycle rider.
Drama, however, ensued when MC Okrika pointed at one of the officers, alleging that he was holding what appeared to be cannabis during the encounter.
The officer was seen turning away from the camera repeatedly before allegedly hiding the substance inside his trousers as filming continued.
Some of the officers, dressed in black outfits, appeared visibly uncomfortable during the confrontation, with one attempting to hide his face while another questioned why the activist was recording them.
MC Okrika, who is known for anti-corruption activism and social advocacy, demanded that the allegedly extorted money be returned to the victim immediately.
The video has since generated widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians praising the activist for his courage in confronting armed security personnel, while others raised concerns over the risks involved.
As of the time of filing this report, the Cross River State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement regarding the allegations captured in the viral footage.
