VFD Group Plc recorded an 18.42 percent gain on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) last week as strong trading activity placed the investment company among the equities that dominated market turnover.
The company’s share price rose from N11.40 to N13.50, representing an increase of N2.10 per share during the week. The performance placed VFD Group among the top five gainers on the NGX.
VFD Group’s price appreciation coincided with heavy activity in its shares, making the stock notable both for its return and its contribution to overall market turnover.
The company joined Fidelity Bank Plc and Access Holdings Plc as the three most actively traded equities by volume during the four-day trading week.
Combined, the three stocks accounted for 1.343 billion shares worth N27.58 billion across 15,771 deals.
This represented 42.42 percent of the 3.166 billion shares traded across the equities market during the week and 17.79 percent of the total N155.023 billion transaction value.
VFD Group had already demonstrated significant trading activity during the period. On September 30, investors exchanged about 367.32 million shares valued at N4.86 billion, making it the most actively traded equity by volume during that session.
The stock’s 18.42 percent weekly gain came despite weakness in the broader Nigerian equities market.
The NGX All-Share Index declined by 0.52 percent, falling from 252,113.41 points to 250,808.27 points, while equity market capitalisation dropped 0.50 percent to N162.843 trillion.
Market breadth also weakened, with 44 equities appreciating during the week compared with 61 in the preceding week, while the number of declining stocks increased to 37 from 32.
VFD Group nevertheless finished among the market’s strongest performers.
ABC Transport led the gainers with a 45.10 percent increase, followed by Critical Minerals Financing Corporation at 37.73 percent and LivingTrust Mortgage Bank at 32.69 percent. VFD Group’s 18.42 percent gain placed it fourth on the weekly gainers’ table, ahead of CWG at 15.28 percent.
The combination of an 18.4 percent price gain and its presence among the three equities responsible for more than two-fifths of total market volume made VFD Group one of the standout stocks of the week.
