US Lawmaker Riley Moore Condemns Plateau Palm Sunday Massacre and Warns of Diplomatic Strain

United States Congressman Riley Moore has issued a stern warning to the Nigerian government following a horrific massacre in Plateau State, cautioning that continued attacks could severely damage diplomatic relations between the two countries.

According to a detailed report by Vanguard, the violence broke out on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026, when a large group of terrorists stormed the Angwan Rukuba community in Jos North Local Government Area. The attackers reportedly arrived around 7:30 pm and opened fire sporadically, throwing the densely populated area into a state of total panic.

While the Plateau State Police Command confirmed 14 deaths—consisting of ten men and two women—local community leaders have provided a much higher toll. Mr. Dalyop Mwantiri, President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), stated that 14 people were killed instantly at the scene, while another 13 victims later succumbed to their injuries in the hospital, bringing the community’s count to 27.

Riley Moore, who was part of a US fact-finding delegation investigating reports of genocide in the region, condemned the incident in a post on X. He described the attack as part of a “sickening” and “troubling pattern” where worshippers are targeted during religious holy days. Riley Moore pointed out that such tragedies have become frequent during Christian observances and urged the administration of President Bola Tinubu to take immediate, decisive action.

The Congressman specifically called for a massive security ramp-up ahead of the Easter Triduum, warning that if the Nigerian authorities fail to mobilize and defend these communities, there will be “significant consequences” for the relationship between Nigeria and the United States.

In the wake of the killings, the Plateau State government has imposed a 48-hour curfew on Jos North to restore order.Additionally, the University of Jos (UNIJOS) was forced to reschedule its examinations due to the heightened tension and security risks surrounding the campus and the general metropolis.
