US lawmaker reacts as gunmen kidnap 25 schoolgirls, Kill vice principal in Kebbi

A United States lawmaker, Riley M. Moore, has expressed deep concern after 25 schoolgirls were abducted and a vice principal was killed during a violent attack in Kebbi State.

Moore reacted on X (formerly Twitter), urging prayers for the victims and calling for stronger action against rising insecurity in Northern Nigeria.

US Lawmaker Decries Fresh School Abductions

In his post, Moore wrote: “Please join me in praying for the 25 girls who have been kidnapped and for the repose of the soul of their vice principal who was killed.

“While we don’t have all the details on this horrific attack, we know that the attack occurred in a Christian enclave in Northern Nigeria.

“The Nigerian government must do more to end the rampant violence.”

The incident happened early on Monday when gunmen invaded Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga town.

Witnesses reported that the attackers arrived before dawn and moved with organised tactics to overwhelm the school’s security.

Vice Principal Killed While Resisting Attackers

Police said the armed men engaged officers in a brief gunfight before scaling the school fence and taking the girls away.

Vice Principal Hassan Yakubu Makuku was shot dead while trying to resist the invaders, and another staff member suffered gunshot injuries during the assault.

Search Teams Deployed Across Nearby Forests

Security authorities confirmed that tactical police units, soldiers, and local vigilantes are now searching forest routes believed to be used by the attackers.

The operation aims to track the gang and rescue the abducted students as soon as possible.

Region Faces Rising Cases of School Kidnappings

Northwest Nigeria has faced repeated school abductions in recent years, with criminal groups targeting students for ransom.

Despite several government promises, many communities remain vulnerable to violent raids and mass kidnappings.

One of the most notable incidents was the 2014 Chibok abduction, when Boko Haram kidnapped 270 schoolgirls.

Many of the girls escaped or were freed, but some remain missing more than a decade later.
