The US Embassy has suspended its regular social media activities amid the US government shutdown.
Earlier, GistReel reported that the US government shut down on October 1, 2025, due to partisan disagreements over federal spending levels.
This marks the first government shutdown in six years, with President Donald Trump yet to break his silence and the White House yet to release an official statement.
US embassy suspends regular social media activities
According to the US Embassy in Ghana’s X account, the suspension of regular social media updates stems from a lapse in appropriations.
This affects the embassy’s Facebook, X, and Instagram accounts, which will not be updated regularly until full operations resume.
However, the social media handle will be used during the suspension for urgent safety and security information.
According to the post, scheduled passport and visa services in the United States and at U.S embassies and Consulates overseas will continue amid the suspension.
The tweet reads….
Because of the lapse in appropriations, the U.S. Embassy’s Facebook, X, and Instagram accounts will not be updated regularly until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information.
At this time, scheduled passport and visa services in the United States and at U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas will continue during the lapse in appropriations as the situation permits.
