Nigeria and the United States have deepened their security cooperation following the visit of the Commander of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM), Gen. Dagvin Anderson, to Abuja.
The visit took place between February 8 and 9, 2026.
In a statement, the Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Samaila Uba, said Anderson met with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other senior officials.
According to him, the discussions focused on counter-terrorism, intelligence sharing, and regional security.
“Both countries discussed military training, joint exercises, and future force development,” Uba said.
He added that Anderson also visited the joint US–Nigeria intelligence fusion centre to strengthen surveillance and operational capacity.
Uba said the visit reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Nigerian-led security initiatives.
