‎The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed national unity as a critical force multiplier in addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

‎

‎This was disclosed in a statement signed by Appolonia Anele, Acting Director, Army Public Relations.

‎

‎According to the statement, the Minister of Defence, Christopher Musa, made the remarks during the Army Headquarters Departments and Commands West African Social Activities (WASA) 2025 held at Mogadishu Cantonment, Abuja.

‎

‎Represented by Major General Henry Wesley (Rtd), the minister described the Army as a microcosm of the Nigerian state where ethnic, cultural and religious diversity unite under a single national identity.

‎

‎He stressed that unity remains the most potent strategic asset in safeguarding national peace and stability amid evolving security threats.

‎

‎The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, who was the Chief Host, said WASA serves as a morale-building and unifying platform embedded in his command philosophy to enhance esprit de corps and operational effectiveness.

‎

‎He noted that welfare policies, reforms and support structures are being strengthened to entrench the Soldier-First culture and keep personnel motivated and combat-ready.

‎

‎Shaibu also reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to working with sister services and other security agencies to tackle terrorism, insurgency and banditry nationwide.

‎

‎In his welcome address, Maxwell Dangana, Commander Army Headquarters Garrison, said the event strengthens bonds among officers, soldiers and families while promoting national cohesion.

‎

‎The colourful ceremony featured traditional cultural displays, beating of the retreat and ceremonial lighting of the bonfire symbolising unity and collective resolve in defence of the nation.
