Unity Bank has begun notifying customers that the integration process with Providus Bank is making steady progress.
In a message sent to customers, the bank said, “Dear Customer, thank you for your support and loyalty. The integration of Unity and Providus Banks to form ProvidusUnity Bank is progressing.
“At ProvidusUnity, we are committed to providing you with excellent service, support your financial needs and help your business grow. We will keep you updated on upcoming changes and our Go-Live date.”
The communication comes weeks after Nigeria’s Supreme Court dismissed the final legal challenge against the merger and formally sanctioned the business combination, clearing the last regulatory obstacle to the transaction.
The judgment approved the transfer of Unity Bank’s assets, liabilities and operations to Providus Bank and authorized the enlarged institution to operate under the name ProvidusUnity Bank Limited.
Integration Enters Final Stage
The latest customer notification suggests that both banks have entered the operational integration phase, during which banking systems, customer accounts, digital platforms and internal operations are being harmonized ahead of an official “Go-Live” date.
While no commencement date has yet been announced, customers were assured that they would receive timely updates before any significant operational changes take effect.
The integration follows months of regulatory approvals, shareholder endorsements and court proceedings that paved the way for the combination of the two lenders into a stronger institution.
Stronger Banking Platform
The merger is expected to create one of Nigeria’s better-capitalized mid-tier lenders, with a combined capital base exceeding the Central Bank of Nigeria’s ₦200 billion minimum requirement for banks with national licences.
The enlarged institution combines Unity Bank’s extensive retail and branch network with Providus Bank’s digital banking capabilities and corporate banking strengths.
What Customers Should Expect
For now, customers are expected to continue banking as usual while the integration progresses. Any migration of accounts, updates to digital banking platforms, branch operations or product offerings is expected to be communicated before the official launch of ProvidusUnity Bank.
The customer advisory indicates that the banks are focused on ensuring a seamless transition while maintaining uninterrupted banking services throughout the integration process.
