Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Bashir Garba, MFR, is set to host its maiden International Media Conference from June 7 to 10, 2026, at the university campus in Sokoto.
The conference, organised by the Department of Mass Communication, comes five years after the establishment and accreditation of the department.
According to a statement issued by the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dr. Daniadi Bako, the conference is themed “Media and National Development in the Era of Artificial Intelligence.”
The organisers noted that the conference comes at a critical period when developing nations face the risk of being left behind in the rapidly evolving global technological landscape driven by artificial intelligence and emerging digital innovations.
The keynote address will be delivered by renowned double Fulbright Scholar, Professor Kehbuma Langmia of Howard University, Washington DC, while the pre-conference lecture will be presented by Professor Fatma El-Sayed of Cairo University, Egypt.
The four-day conference will also feature technical sessions and paper presentations chaired by eminent scholars, including former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Kashere, Professor Umar Pate, and the Vice Chancellor of Northwest University Sokoto, Professor Mukhtar Umar Bunza.
Among lead paper presenters expected at the conference are Dr. Ola Ifatimehin of Bayero University Kano and Dr. Sam Unwana Akpan of the University of Lagos.
Speaking on preparations for the conference, the Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Dr. Jibril Gwandu, assured participants and visitors of a successful and memorable outing.
“We are fully ready and surely we will witness an international conference worthy of the reputation of our university,” Gwandu stated.
The conference is expected to attract media scholars, researchers, communication experts and academics from different parts of the world to the ancient city of Sokoto, the seat of the caliphate.
