The United States Embassy in Abuja has cancelled all visa appointments scheduled for Wednesday, March 4, 2026, citing potential protests in Nigeria’s capital city.
In a notice posted on its official social media platform, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria stated that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure amid security concerns linked to possible demonstrations in Abuja.
According to the embassy, individuals who had visa interviews scheduled for the affected date will be contacted with instructions on how to reschedule their appointments.
“Due to the potential for protests in Abuja, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja has cancelled all visa appointments on Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Applicants will be contacted with information on how to reschedule,” the mission said.
The embassy advised applicants to monitor its official website and social media channels for further updates regarding visa processing and rescheduling arrangements.
While the embassy did not provide details about the expected protests, diplomatic missions typically adjust operations when security risks are anticipated to ensure the safety of staff and visitors.
The U.S. Mission also provided emergency contact information for individuals who may require urgent consular assistance.
“For emergency assistance, please contact the U.S. Embassy at +234 209 461 4328 or visit the website,” the mission stated.
Embassy officials thanked applicants for their understanding and cooperation as the situation evolves.
Security-related disruptions to embassy operations occasionally occur when authorities anticipate protests or other developments that could pose safety concerns in host cities.
Applicants and travelers are therefore encouraged to regularly check official embassy channels for updates on visa services and other consular operations.
