Troops rescue six, including two infants in search for abducted Borno students

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), have rescued six more persons abducted from Government Day Secondary School, Lassa, in a fresh breakthrough during ongoing Search and Rescue operations in Borno State.

In a statement issued on Friday, July 4, 2026, by the Acting Military Information Officer, Captain Mohammed Goni, OPHK said the victims comprising four adults and two infants were rescued at Talakawa in Chibok Local Government Area following sustained air and ground operations backed by credible intelligence.

According to the statement, the victims were originally abducted in May in Mussa, Askira/Uba LGA. They have been evacuated to a secure location where they are undergoing comprehensive medical evaluation and receiving appropriate care.

“Operation HADIN KAI has also provided immediate relief materials and basic necessities to alleviate the effects of their ordeal, while arranging for their safe reunification with families,” the statement said.

The military said the latest rescue demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated Search and Rescue efforts and reinforces the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, Borno State Government, security agencies and auxiliary forces to the safe recovery of all abducted persons.

Troops are said to be in aggressive pursuit of fleeing terrorists along their withdrawal routes. During exploitation of the terrorists’ withdrawal axis, troops recovered 50 rounds of PKT ammunition abandoned by the insurgents, which OPHK described as evidence of the “disordered nature of the terrorists’ retreat under intense military pressure.”

OPHK assured that Search and Rescue operations will continue with renewed vigour until every remaining victim is safely accounted for.

The Theatre Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies, while warning against spreading unverified information capable of causing anxiety.

“We remain resolute in our mandate to protect lives and property, decisively defeat terrorism, and restore enduring peace and stability across the North East,” the statement added.
