‎Troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under the Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), have foiled a planned attack on several communities in Plateau State, neutralising five bandits and recovering arms and ammunition.

‎The operation, which took place in the early hours of January 1, 2026, was part of ongoing offensive actions under Operation PEACE SHIELD aimed at denying criminal elements freedom of movement within the Joint Operations Area.

‎According to a statement issued by the Acting Media Information Officer of JTF Operation ENDURING PEACE, Captain Joshua Atu John, the troops carried out an intelligence-led ambush after bandits were observed mobilising from Dutsen Zaki toward Odare Forest in Wase Local Government Area.

‎Captain John disclosed that the armed group intended to launch coordinated attacks on adjoining communities before they were intercepted by troops.

‎“During the encounter, troops made contact with the bandits, resulting in a firefight during which five bandits were neutralised, while others fled with gunshot wounds,” he said.

‎He added that troops recovered two AK-47 rifle magazines loaded with 11 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, as well as two machetes and one knife from the scene.

‎The statement noted that troops are currently conducting follow-up operations to track down the fleeing criminals.

‎Reacting to the development, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander JTF Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General EF Oyinlola, reassured residents of Plateau State of the military’s resolve to safeguard lives and property.

‎Maj-Gen Oyinlola urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible intelligence.

‎He warned criminal elements operating within the area to desist from all unlawful activities or face decisive military action, stressing that troops remain vigilant and battle-ready.
