Troops of the Joint Task Force, Operation HADIN KAI, have foiled multiple attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents and arrested 17 suspected collaborators in Borno State.
The military disclosed that troops thwarted a planned attack in Damboa after detecting the movement of insurgents.
“Troops deployed at Damboa thwarted a planned Boko Haram/ISWAP attack… forcing them to withdraw in disarray.”
It added that similar attacks in Gwoza and Askira Uba were repelled, with insurgents fleeing towards the Mandara Mountains.
Troops also discovered and detonated an Improvised Explosive Device along the Goniri–Ngamdu road.
In a major breakthrough, troops intercepted two truckloads of supplies suspected to be meant for terrorists along the Maiduguri–Mafa road.
“The consignments… included medical drugs, motorcycle tubes and tyres, mosquito nets, rolls of mats, air filter cylinders, and detergents.”
The military said several suspects were arrested in connection with the supplies.
A suspected logistics supplier, Mohammed Adamu, was arrested with N624,900 and other items, while 13 others were apprehended in Gubio.
Two additional suspects reportedly confessed to long-term involvement in supplying materials to terrorists.
Troops also arrested a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP member, Abubakar Ali, alias “Saina,” at Kilo Papa checkpoint.
“Further interrogation revealed that the suspect was on a suspected reconnaissance mission.”
In separate operations, a suspected kidnapper was arrested, while 450 wraps of suspected marijuana were recovered during clearance operations.
The military commended troops for their efforts and pledged to sustain operations to curb insurgency in the North-East.
