The Nigerian military has repelled a coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Mairari, Borno State, destroying two explosive-laden vehicles and killing several insurgents.
The Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, disclosed that the attack occurred between late December 12 and the early hours of December 13, 2025.
Uba said the attackers attempted to breach the base with two Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices but were stopped by troops through swift ground and air responses.
He said CCTV footage and battlefield assessment confirmed that several terrorists were neutralised, while others sustained injuries during the failed assault.
According to him, troops, supported by the Theatre Command Quick Reaction Group, Nigeria Police Crack Team and Civilian Joint Task Force, carried out mop-up operations that led to the recovery of arms, ammunition and logistics abandoned by the insurgents.
Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, ammunition, grenades, motorcycles, communication devices and medical supplies.
Uba added that although the destroyed VBIEDs damaged parts of the road, the base remained intact, with no breach recorded.
He said troops are sustaining aggressive patrols in the area, reaffirming the military’s commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring peace in the North East.
