Tourism remains one of Adamawa’s IGR hubs — Commissioner

As the world marks Tourism Day, the Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, Mr Aloysius Babadoke, says tourism remains one of the main sources of internally generated revenue (IGR) in Adamawa State.

He stated that the government will continue to intensify efforts to give the sector a facelift in order to transform the state into a major tourism destination in Nigeria.

Aloysius Babadoke disclosed this while speaking with newsmen during activities marking the World Tourism Day celebration in Adamawa.

“This present administration was very deliberate in investing in the state’s rich cultural heritage and tourism assets as part of a broader strategy to create economic opportunities, particularly for young people, while showca justsing Adamawa’s cultural diversity to the world”.

According to him, ” we have over 38 identified cultural heritage sites which when fully developed and properly maintained could attract tourists to the state and this will not only translate to revenue but also create employment opportunities for residents”.

“This is our fourth time we are celebrating the Tourism Day, and we will continue to celebrate it in the years to come because we want our people, especially the younger generation, to understand and appreciate our culture,”

He commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for sustaining the celebration and supporting investments in culture and tourism, demonstrating the government’s commitment to the development of the sector.

He also appreciated the state’s traditional rulers and cultural custodians for their support in preserving Adamawa’s heritage.

He noted that the government has begun a gradual process of opening up the sites to both domestic and international tourists.

He described the colourful cultural displays witnessed during the event as evidence of Adamawa’s enormous tourism potential and diversity, adding that traditional institutions—including emirates and chiefdoms—have continued to play an important role in preserving the state’s cultural heritage.

The event was graced by a colourful display of horses in full regalia and cultural troupes showcasing the diverse culture of the state.
