Tinubu’s Minister, Wale Edun speaks on suffering from stroke – Jonathan’s aide reveals

A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and investigative journalist, Jackson Ude, has disclosed what the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, said concerning his health condition.

In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Ude revealed that the minister personally dismissed widespread rumours suggesting that he had suffered a stroke and was flown abroad for treatment.

Edun denies rumours of stroke

According to Ude’s post, Wale Edun clearly stated that he is not suffering from any stroke and remains in Nigeria. He described the circulating reports as false and misleading, stressing that although he had fallen ill, his condition was not as severe as speculated.

Ude quoted the minister as saying: “I don’t have stroke. I am in Abuja and feeling better.”

The finance minister explained that he had to cancel his planned trip to Washington DC, where he was scheduled to attend the 2025 International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank Annual Meetings, due to health reasons.

I’m getting better now – Minister

In his clarification, Edun noted that he stayed back in Abuja to receive medical attention and has been responding well to treatment.

“I don’t have stroke. I am not diagnosed with stroke. I got a bit sick and had to stay back to get treatment. I am getting better now,” Edun reportedly said.

His statement comes after several online reports claimed that the minister had been flown out of the country following a sudden health crisis.

Background

The false report of Edun’s ill health surfaced just days after he was absent from a high-profile economic delegation.

His absence fuelled speculation, with several online platforms alleging that he had suffered a stroke and was receiving treatment abroad.

However, with his latest clarification through Jackson Ude, the finance minister has effectively laid the rumours to rest, confirming that he remains in Abuja and is on the path to full recovery.
