Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has made shocking allegations against President Bola Tinubu’s government over the ongoing trial of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
In a post shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, Sowore claimed that a secret decision had been taken within the government to sentence Kanu either to death or life imprisonment.
“Secret Decision Already Made” – Sowore
According to Sowore, the alleged plan was hatched through a “high-level political conspiracy” and disguised as a judicial process.
He wrote: “For the avoidance of doubt and to alert the public, it has become clear that a secret decision has long been reached within the @officialABAT regime regarding the fate of Mazi @NnamdiKanu.”
He added: “The plan, devised through a high-level political conspiracy, is to either sentence him to death or condemn him to life imprisonment.”
Sowore alleged that the plan was to use Justice James Omotosho’s ruling to justify the predetermined outcome, claiming that Kanu’s refusal to open his defence would be interpreted as an admission of guilt.
He said the ruling was expected in November, drawing parallels with the 1995 execution of environmental activist Ken Saro-Wiwa and eight others under General Sani Abacha’s regime.
“History Repeating Itself”
Sowore described the situation as a repeat of Nigeria’s dark past, suggesting that the nation stands at a moral crossroads similar to that of 1995.
He concluded by stating that Kanu’s trial has moved beyond a legal matter and has become a test of conscience for both the Nigerian government and its citizens.
