Tinubu to deliver 65th Independence anniversary speech

President Bola Tinubu will deliver a nationwide address on Wednesday, October 1, to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day celebration.

The broadcast is scheduled to air at 7 a.m., according to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Television and radio stations across the country have been directed to link up with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) to transmit the live speech.

Independence Day broadcasts have always provided Nigerian leaders with an avenue to reflect on national challenges, highlight milestones, and reassure citizens of the government’s resolve towards development and unity.

Focus Likely On Economy, Security, Infrastructure

Tinubu’s upcoming address is expected to centre on the government’s achievements in tackling insecurity, driving economic recovery, and pushing ahead with infrastructure projects across Nigeria.

In 2023, during his maiden Independence Day broadcast, Tinubu highlighted economic reforms, subsidy removal, and strategies to combat insecurity. Last year, he urged Nigerians to remain patient, insisting that sacrifices made under his reforms would yield long-term benefits.

This year, attention will be on how much progress has been achieved, with analysts anticipating details on job creation, power supply improvements, and the fight against inflation.

Nigeria Marks 65 Years Of Independence

Nigeria, Africa’s most populous nation, secured independence from Britain on October 1, 1960, and has since celebrated the date annually with presidential speeches, military parades, and civic events.

The 65th anniversary provides another opportunity for reflection, as the country continues to grapple with socio-economic challenges while striving for stability and growth.

Despite political and economic hurdles, Independence Day remains a symbolic reminder of Nigeria’s unity and resilience as a nation with enormous potential on the global stage.
