President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the death of renowned businessman and Kano-based trade union leader, Bature Abdulaziz, who passed away over the weekend.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Abdulaziz’s death as a significant loss felt beyond Kano, noting his wide influence on commerce across Nigeria.
Abdulaziz was the National President of the Harmonised Traders Association of Nigeria and held several leadership positions within commerce-related unions, where he played a key role in advancing traders’ welfare and economic empowerment.
President Tinubu also acknowledged the late businessman’s support during the 2023 presidential campaign and his consistent advocacy for national unity and patriotism through the Patriotic Elders Network for Peace, which he founded.
The President extended his condolences to the Kano business community, the people and government of Kano State, urging them to find comfort in Abdulaziz’s lasting contributions to trade and community development.
A prominent figure in Kano’s trading sector, Abdulaziz rose to national recognition as a former leader of the Kantin Kwari Market Traders Association before becoming National President of the Harmonised Traders Union of Nigeria.
He also served as National President of the Patriotic Elders Network for Peace, an organisation focused on peacebuilding, national security and political engagement.
His death was confirmed by his son, Ismail Abdulaziz.
