‎President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former First Lady, Chief Margaret Shonekan, on her 84th birthday, describing her as a model of humility and public service.

‎The congratulatory message is contained in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Monday in Abuja.

‎Tinubu celebrated the wife of the late Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, noting her enduring legacy of kindness and national service.

‎He said Mrs Shonekan devoted her career to strengthening public institutions, promoting effective service delivery, educational assessment, academic excellence, and human resource development.

‎She began her career as a Trainee Assistant Registrar at WAEC in 1965, rose to Deputy Registrar, and served as Federal Civil Service Commissioner from 1986 to 1994.

‎She later became Head of WAEC Nigeria between 1995 and 2000. Tinubu commended her patriotism and commitment to education in Nigeria.

‎He recalled her return to WAEC in 1994 after serving as Nigeria’s First Lady for three months. The President prayed for her continued health and sound mind. (NAN)
