President Bola Tinubu has has ordered security operatives to conduct a quick and thorough investigation into the murder of Ms. Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a news anchor with Arise Television News with a view to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
President Tinubu said this while reacting to the murder of Maduagwu early Monday during an armed robbery at her residence in Katampe, Abuja.
The President, in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, on Tuesday in Abuja also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of the Arise Television News news anchor.
He also extended heartfelt condolences to the Maduagwu’s family, Arise News management, and the entire Nigerian media community.
”Maduagwu was a promising professional journalist whose life was cut short in a cruel and condemnable manner.
”Security and law enforcement agencies should conduct a quick and thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice without delay.”
Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property, and would intensify efforts to combat all forms of crime across the country.

Meanwhile, as the outrage over the murder of the journalist mounts, the FCT Police Command it has ordered a comprehensive investigation into circumstances surrounding her death.
The spokesperson for the Command, SP Josephine Adeh in statement on Tuesday in Abuja said the Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of the FCT, Mr Ajao Adewale had described the incident as a cruel and senseless act that had no place in a sane society.
“To this end, the CP has ordered a discreet and comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“He has further directed the deployment of intelligence and operational assets to identify, track, and apprehend those responsible for this heinous crime,” she said.
Adeh pledged that justice would be served in the matter and pledged the commitment of the command to public safety and the prevention of similar occurrences.
She enjoined the public to support ongoing investigations by providing timely and useful information to the police.
Adeh urged the public to always ensure they raised prompt alarm in every suspicious situation with a view to denying criminals the opportunity to carry out their evil plans.
She said the CP had extended his heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the late journalist.
