Tinubu Approves Two-Year Extension For Surveyor-General

President Bola Tinubu has approved a two-year extension for the tenure of the Surveyor-General of the Federation, Mr. AbuduGaniyu Adebomehin.

The extension, announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, is intended to consolidate ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s geospatial data systems and national land administration.

The tenure extension will take effect from January 5, 2026, following the recent transfer of the Office of the Surveyor-General to the Presidency, which places national surveying and geospatial intelligence operations under direct executive oversight.

With the extension, Adebomehin will serve until January 2028, continuing to lead efforts in national land management and infrastructure coordination.

Onanuga said the President expects Adebomehin to focus on reforms that include highways and abutting land infrastructure, land reclamation, erosion control programs, and other strategic national projects.

Adebomehin was originally appointed Surveyor-General by the late President Muhammadu Buhari, effective January 5, 2022.

The extension reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening geospatial intelligence as a tool for planning, development, and national security.

By consolidating reforms, the Presidency aims to improve coordination of land administration and infrastructure projects across the country.

The move also signals continuity in the ongoing modernization of Nigeria’s surveying and mapping systems, aligning them with national development priorities.

Adebomehin’s leadership is expected to drive efficiency and innovation in the management of geospatial data and national land resources.
