President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mr. Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo, SAN, as the new Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the Federal Ministry of Justice.
Oyedepo, a 2007 law graduate of the University of Ilorin, is being transferred from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to the mainstream Federal Civil Service to assume the role.
A letter dated December 23, 2025, signed by Omolabake Mafe on behalf of the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, said the appointment was made in the public interest.
According to a statement by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information and Public Relations at the State House, Oyedepo will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Mr. Abubakar Babadoko, who completed his mandatory eight-year tenure as a director on December 31, 2025.
Oyedepo, who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2008, is expected to strengthen federal prosecutions, reduce reliance on external legal counsel, and promote greater consistency in the government’s legal strategies.
He spent more than 15 years at the EFCC, where he specialised in prosecuting complex economic and financial crimes and served as Head of the agency’s Monitoring Unit.
Reacting to the appointment, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, described it as “very befitting and a perfect New Year gift to our University,” urging Oyedepo to uphold diligence and integrity in his new role.
