Tragedy struck Tuesday morning at the busy Badagry Roundabout in Lagos State when a truck belonging to Dangote Group rammed into commercial motorcyclists, killing three people, including an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
The fatal crash occurred at about 9:46 a.m. when the truck, reportedly travelling from Lagos toward the Seme axis along the Badagry Motorway, lost control near the roundabout and crushed two motorcycles.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle swerved uncontrollably before hitting the motorcycles, leaving the riders and passengers trapped. Three persons — among them a LASTMA officer who was on duty at the location — were confirmed dead at the scene. The motorcycles were severely damaged in the impact.
Emergency responders, including officials of the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Road Safety Corps and LASTMA, swiftly mobilised to secure the area, manage traffic and prevent further casualties. The remains of the victims were evacuated while security personnel cordoned off the road to ease congestion.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the accident. Investigations are expected to determine what led to the truck losing control and the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
