The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention, held at the velodrome in Abuja on Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Speaking during a live broadcast on Channels Television, Wike, who is regarded as a prominent leader within the PDP, reacted to the atmosphere and organization of the event, describing it as fulfilling and aligned with expectations.
Responding to an interviewer’s remarks on the level of coordination and energy at the venue, Wike said, “Very much excited, very much happy and I give God the glory that today has come. And what we’ve expected, what we’ve prayed to God, God has answered our prayers.”
The convention, which drew party stakeholders from across the country, took place at the same venue that hosted a previous PDP gathering four years earlier. During the interview, the minister was reminded of his experience at that earlier event, where he had contested as a presidential aspirant under the party.
The interviewer noted that the 2022 convention at the velodrome had left Wike “a little sad,” with some observers linking that moment to subsequent internal challenges within the PDP. He was then asked how the current event compares and whether it helps reshape memories of the past.
In his response, Wike reflected on the earlier convention and the individuals involved, stating, “Thank you. You see, God knows why things happen this way. This was the venue that Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, and Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Co, laid the foundation of the burial of PDP. Unknown to us that they have other reasons.”
He further added, “They did not want PDP to survive. But I thank God that God has said, man proposes and God disposes. It was this venue that impunity was shown.”
