“This Was Not The Job I Was Promised” — Her Overseas Work Experience Raises Alarm

A Kenyan woman from Kisii has come forward with a heartbreaking story that is now serving as a serious warning to people seeking employment opportunities abroad.

Like many job seekers, she believed she had secured a well-paying job in Qatar. The offer promised good wages, decent living conditions, and a chance to uplift her family. Confident in the assurances given by recruitment agents, she traveled overseas with high hopes.

Those hopes were short-lived.

Upon arrival, events took a shocking turn. Instead of being taken to the workplace she had been promised, the woman says she was moved under unclear circumstances and later transported to Iran—a country she had never agreed to work in.

What followed was even more disturbing.

She claims she was forced to work as a shepherd in a remote area, far from towns and basic services. The work was physically exhausting, and she says payment was irregular or completely withheld. Communication with the outside world was extremely limited, leaving her isolated and vulnerable.

The woman explains that language barriers, lack of proper documentation, and fear of punishment made it nearly impossible to seek help. Each day came with uncertainty, as she struggled to understand how her situation had changed so drastically.

Her experience highlights a growing crisis affecting many Africans searching for jobs abroad.

Unscrupulous recruitment agents continue to exploit desperation by offering attractive contracts that turn out to be false. In some cases, victims are trafficked across multiple countries without their consent, making rescue and accountability very difficult.

After eventually returning home, the Kisii woman chose to speak out.

She now urges Kenyans to be extremely cautious when pursuing overseas jobs. She advises job seekers to verify agencies through government offices, confirm contracts independently, and involve family members before traveling.

Her story is a powerful reminder that not every foreign job opportunity is genuine. While working abroad can change lives, blind trust can also lead to suffering.

Her message is simple but urgent: always prioritize safety, ask questions, and never ignore red flags—no matter how attractive the promise may seem.See_More…
