A Nigerian soldier has caused a stir online after revealing how much he earns in the army and Nigerians are shocked.
“In a video shared by @vodina on TikTok, the soldier revealed that his monthly salary is just ₦150,000, despite serving in the army for years.”
According to him, new recruits start with around ₦104,000, which gradually increases over the years, but even after long service, the pay is still considered low.
“A soldier’s starting salary is ₦104,000 when you first join. After five years, you get a new rank and your salary increases to ₦112,000. At 10 years, you are promoted again (to corporal), and the salary becomes ₦115,000. After 15 years, it rises to ₦125,000, and at 20 years, the salary reaches ₦150,000.”
He added that some allowances may exist depending on posting location, but the take-home pay remains “barely enough” for daily living.
This revelation has Nigerians talking, with many questioning how military personnel risk their lives daily yet earn so little, especially with rising living costs.
A commentator wrote, “This is pure wickedness. After risking your life for years, this is the best they fit pay you?” Another said, “Even private sector workers make more pass that. Very sad!”
The soldier’s claim has sparked outrage online, leaving many netizens demanding better welfare and pay for those serving in the army.
While some are skeptical about the exact figures, the conversation around fair compensation for military personnel is now trending.
