“This is not a ₦250m bag” – Linda Ikeji reacts to Margaret Obi’s Hermès handbag controversy

Popular blogger and entrepreneur Linda Ikeji has reacted to the controversy surrounding a luxury Hermès handbag carried by Margaret Obi, wife of former Anambra State governor and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi.

The handbag recently sparked discussions online after reports identified it as a Hermès Kelly 35 in Malachite, with its price reportedly estimated at hundreds of millions of naira.

However, Linda Ikeji has dismissed the widely circulated ₦250 million valuation, urging Nigerians to relax and insisting that the bag is not worth that amount.

In a post shared on her Instagram story, Linda wrote:

“Relax people… this is not a N250m bag. If it was, you think she would be traveling with it? I know how much these bags cost, because I have a few. Relax!”

Her comment comes after the luxury handbag became a subject of debate online, with some Nigerians questioning whether such an expensive accessory aligns with Peter Obi’s public image of prudence and advocacy for reducing the cost of governance.

The controversy gained further attention after social media users circulated claims about the handbag’s alleged price, with some reports putting its value at about ₦237 million based on an online conversion of the listed price.

However, the actual amount Margaret Obi paid for the handbag, if she purchased it, has not been publicly established.

Linda Ikeji’s intervention has therefore added another perspective to the debate, as she appeared to challenge the viral valuation based on her familiarity with luxury handbags.
