There Is No Political Party That Does Not Have People With Divergent Opinions — Asogwa

The Senior Special Adviser on Media and Spokesman to the Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Ken Eluma Asogwa, has confirmed that suspects were arrested following an alleged break-in at the party’s National Secretariat.

Asogwa spoke during an interview on The Volume Pod on Saturday, March 7, 2026, while responding to questions about reports that documents were stolen from the party’s headquarters amid internal developments within the organization.

During the discussion, the interviewer referenced claims that the party’s leadership had recently moved toward reconciliation and rebuilding efforts, yet allegations emerged that individuals broke into the party’s office and removed documents.

“So, if I follow your thoughts, you’re saying following the naming of the chairman, following the, should I say, handing to say, come, let’s make peace and build the party again, no dispute, nothing put to rest. However, documents were stolen in the Labour Party quarters. And the chairman did come out, or should I say, chairperson did come out to say documents were stolen by thieves,” the interviewer asked.

“Documents were stolen by people who felt she should not start from where it had stopped, where whatever work had been done in the Labour Party had stopped, and by possibly people who felt they wanted to clean up any financial mess that might have been created during the uproar,” the interviewer added.

Responding, Asogwa said disagreements are common in political parties and noted that differing opinions among members should not be interpreted as a breakdown within the party. “There is no political party today that doesn’t have people with divergent opinions,” he said.

He acknowledged that individuals described as miscreants had entered the party’s National Secretariat but said the situation had already been addressed by law enforcement authorities. “So, yes, there were some miscrants that invaded the National Secretariat some days ago. And as we speak, they are in police nets answering some questions,” Asogwa stated.

According to him, the incident involved a small group of individuals whose actions do not reflect the broader condition of the party. “So, that there are some negligible number of persons who decided to invade the office in the dead of night to cut away some documents, doesn’t take away the fact that there is peace in the party,” he said.

Asogwa compared the situation with developments in other political parties, noting that internal disagreements occur across party lines. “Now, if you go to APC today, you will see that there are some persons who are here and there crying foul for one reason or the other. It doesn’t make APC a factionalised political party,” he said, referring to the All Progressives Congress.

He further stated that those responsible for the alleged attack on the party secretariat were apprehended the same night the incident occurred. “But the truth is that the folks that, or the vandals that attacked the National Secretariat were picked up that very night,” Asogwa said.

The party spokesman added that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects are currently being questioned regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident. “Well, like I said, there were some, there were miscrants. So, I don’t know. They’re answering questions as to who sent them. So, until that, when police submits their report, we’ll be able to know who, what the outcome is,” he stated.See_More…
