Residents of Ejiba community in Yagba West LGA of Kogi State were thrown into panic earlier this morning as armed terrorists invaded a Cherubim and Seraphim Church during service and abducted several worshippers.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers stormed the church while prayers were ongoing, firing sporadically and causing worshippers to flee in different directions.
In the chaos, the gunmen whisked away the church’s pastor popularly known as Orlando his wife, and other church members whose exact number is yet to be confirmed.
The attack, which happened around the early hours of Sunday, has left the peaceful community in shock, with many residents describing it as one of the most frightening incidents in the area this year.
According to reports, the church was newly established in the community, making the attack even more unexpected.
The Kogi State Government has confirmed the incident and says a full rescue operation is already underway.
Security agencies, including local vigilantes and police units, have reportedly intensified search efforts to track down the bandits and safely bring back the abducted victims.
The state government also appealed to residents to remain calm, promising that the attackers would be brought to justice.
This incident adds to the rising wave of insecurity across parts of Nigeria where armed groups have repeatedly targeted churches, rural communities, and worship centres.
