The Nigerian Army has confirmed that troops of 6 Brigade neutralised four armed militia members and recovered weapons during a security operation in Usmanu Village, Karim Lamido LGA of Taraba State.
The operation followed intelligence reports of renewed communal clashes between the Shomo and Wurkun communities over a long-standing land dispute that had resulted in arson and destruction of property.
On arrival at the scene, the troops were reportedly attacked by armed men emerging from the Fadama axis, triggering a gun battle that led to the death of four militia members.
Recovered items include three dane guns, one fabricated AK-47 rifle, 25 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and two motorcycles.
The Army also revealed that a police officer found operating with the militia was arrested and is undergoing investigation.
Commending the troops, the Commander, 6 Brigade/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, said:
“The Brigade remains fully committed to ridding Taraba State of criminal elements and sustaining the ongoing operational tempo.”
He urged residents of Karim Lamido and surrounding communities to maintain peace and support security agencies with credible intelligence.
The disclosure was contained in a statement by Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 6 Brigade.
