Super Eagles showed tactical improvement against Portugal, Aba football fans say

Aba (Abia) June 11, 2026 (NAN) Some football fans in Aba have commended the Super Eagles for their commitment, determination and resilience against the Portugal national team, in spite of losing the match 2-1.
Some of the fans, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday, said the team showed the true spirit of Nigeria during the match and deserved accolade.
NAN reports that, Pedro Neto put Portugal ahead in the 23rd minute and Adams Akor levelled proceeding for Nigeria in the 36th minute before Francisco Conceicao made it 2-1 for the host in the 74th minute.
Ikechukwu Okoro, an artist, said there were significant tactical improvement on the Eagles team as they relied on discipline, defensive setup and quick center-attacks, that made it difficult for Portugal.
He hailed the goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, for delivering an outstanding performance with five vital saves against Portugal, showing the progress in the team under coach Chelle.
Chinedu Oharie called on Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to provide a stable and transparent framework, including a constant player selection process to build the team momentum and secure long-term success.
“Well done Super Eagles for the applausive performance; though, 2-1 defeat is painful, but should be taken in good faith, considering the team improvement,” he said.
Makenna Uduma said the players showed character and a strong account of themselves in spite of the defeat as there were lots of positives to take from the game.
On his part, Amaechi Odeme advised coach Chelle to ensure there was no interference in his discovery and building of a formidable team for the nation.
“I wish the coach Chelle will go back to the drawing board as he continues to improve the team and get the best out of the players,” he said. (NAN)
