Yoruba nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has called on Nigeria’s newly appointed career and non-career ambassadors to work closely with President Bola Tinubu to positively reshape the country’s global image and perception.
In a statement to journalists on Saturday, Igboho urged the envoys to leverage their expertise and leadership experience to excel in their diplomatic postings. He commended Tinubu for the appointments and encouraged Nigerians of all tribes, religions, and political affiliations to project the country positively despite existing socio-economic challenges.
The president had on Friday announced the posting of 65 ambassadors, detailing their primary countries of assignment through his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Among the appointees were former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode (Germany); Professor Isaac Adewole (Canada); Reno Omokri (Mexico); retired Lt-Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau (China); Kayode Are (United States); former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayodeji Oke (France); and Chioma Ohakim (Poland).
Igboho particularly welcomed Fani-Kayode’s appointment, praising the Olugbon of Orile-Igbon, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, and President Tinubu’s lawyer, Oluwole Afolabi, SAN, for their roles in the ambassadorial postings.
“I, on behalf of Chief Fani-Kayode, want to specifically commend President Bola Tinubu for deeming it fit to appoint him and other Yoruba indigenes as ambassadors for our diplomatic missions. This is indeed commendable,” Igboho said, adding that the collaboration of traditional and professional actors helped secure the appointment.
