Some members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Borno, called “PDP Stakeholders National Working Caretaker Committee (PDPNCC)” on Monday backed Chief Nyesom Wike’s leadership.
Dr Grema Kyari, the group’s Chairman, made this known at a news conference in Maiduguri.
The group said that their support for Wike, also the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), was based on his stand “for providing the party with clear direction, courage and responsible leadership at a time when the party was confronted with challenges.”
Kyari, however, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which on Dec. 24 formally issued a statement rejecting the outcome of the party’s Convention in Ibadan, which produced Mr Kabiru Turaki as its National Chairman.
The group further called on the former Borno PDP Chairman, Alhaji Zanna Gaddama, to immediately coordinate all former party executives, from ward level through Local Government Areas to the State level, to hand over the party’s documents, properties, and records to the newly constituted state Working Caretaker Committee, under the leadership of Mr Abbas Jibrin its Chairman and Mr Haruna Audu its Secretary within 48 hours.
“Let it be clearly stated that any attempt to resist this lawful directive shall amount to impersonation, and such actions will not be taken lightly under the law,” Kyari said. (NAN)
