“Some guys will remain single till Jesus comes” — Lady rejects ₦100k date budget

A Nigerian lady has sparked debate on social media after revealing that she questioned a man’s ₦100,000 budget for a date after accepting his invitation.

According to the lady, she was in the talking stage with the man when he asked her out on a date.

She accepted the invitation but decided to ask about his budget a day before the planned outing.

She said the man told her he had budgeted ₦100,000 for the date, a figure she considered too low.

“I went into a talking stage with this dude, and he asked me out on a date, which I accepted. A day before the date, I asked how much he had budgeted, and he said ₦100k.

“Seriously? I should dress up, leave my comfort zone, and come out because you want to take me on a date, and the entire budget is ₦100k?

“Some guys will remain single till Jesus comes.”

Nigerians react

Her comment generated mixed reactions, with some social media users criticising her expectations while others argued that people have the right to set their standards when it comes to dating.

King Resilience questioned the idea of judging a date by the amount of money available, writing:

“So ₦100k is now too small for a date? If the goal is to enjoy each other’s company, why turn a date into a financial audition? Some people are single because they’re looking for a sponsor, not a partner.”

Wisdom, however, suggested that ₦100,000 could be considered insufficient depending on the type of outing expected.

“If your definition of a date is eating as much as you can and drinking the most expensive labels on the shelves or going shopping to some expensive arcade, then yes, that’s too little money.”

Princilla advised both men and women to establish their expectations before pursuing a relationship.

“Women have their standards so you men too should set yours ffs. If you don’t meet hers just don’t get in touch with her. How difficult is this.”

Biguche also criticised the woman’s expectation, asking why ₦100,000 would not be enough for an ordinary date.

“If no be greediness wey dey worry U why won’t 100k be enough for a date na Sheraton or Eko Hotel Una dey go nii haa women sef.”

Flutter took a harsher position, suggesting that some women could face negative consequences because of the standards they set.

Meanwhile, Israel described the woman’s position as entitlement, pointing out that ₦100,000 represents a significant amount of money for some Nigerians.

“You’re the one being entitled… The 100k you’re calling JUST is what some people are earning in a month, if not even less.”
