The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved ₦8.5 billion for the full reconstruction and rehabilitation of the burnt sections of the Sokoto Central Market — a vital economic hub tragically lost in 2021.
This was made known in a statem3nt by Governor Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto.
He recalled that “For years, traders waited. Contracts were awarded, donations were made, yet the market remained in ruins. Our administration has chosen action over excuses. After due consultations, 38 contractors from our own business community have been engaged, with a 50% upfront payment to ensure immediate mobilisation. The project will be completed within three months”, he said.
He added that “Council also approved the construction of a new administrative block and rehabilitation works at the Pilgrims Welfare Agency, and we have transmitted the 2026 Proposed Budget to the House of Assembly for legislative consideration.
“Sokoto is moving with purpose. We are rebuilding, modernising, and restoring confidence in public institutions. Our traders, workers, and families deserve nothing less,” the Governor said.
