Sixteen Local Government Council Chairmen in Taraba State have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a significant political realignment in the state.
The council bosses, who are reportedly finalising their move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), said their decision was made in solidarity with Governor Agbu Kefas, who is expected to officially defect to the APC on Wednesday.
Their resignation was disclosed in a statement on Monday by the Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, Dr. Aminu Jauro Hassan, issued on behalf of the council executives.
According to the statement, the chairmen said their exit from the PDP would enable them to fully align with the governor’s political trajectory and consolidate support for his Moving Forward Agenda for Taraba State.
They also pledged loyalty to Governor Kefas, praising his leadership style, peacebuilding initiatives, and commitment to the state’s development.
The mass resignation came just hours after sixteen PDP members of the Taraba State House of Assembly also defected to the APC, further intensifying the wave of political defections sweeping across the state.
